Insight on the 2025 National Children’s Month: “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”
The 2025 National Children’s Month theme highlights a crucial fight in today’s digital age ending Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM). This theme emphasizes that protecting children now extends beyond homes and schools and into the online spaces where they learn, play, and interact. By focusing on this issue, the government acknowledges the rising risks children face and the importance of safeguarding their rights to safety, dignity, and a life free from exploitation.
The government’s efforts toward child protection have strengthened in recent years, especially with the implementation of Republic Act 11930, the “Anti-OSAEC and Anti-CSAEM Act.” This law not only punishes offenders but also ensures prevention, rescue, and rehabilitation services for victims. Agencies like the DSWD, CWC, and DOJ work together to raise awareness, empower communities through cyber-safety education, and coordinate law enforcement operations. Such actions demonstrate a holistic approach one that protects children legally, socially, and emotionally.
However, while these measures are commendable, continuous vigilance and stronger collaboration among families, schools, communities, and digital platforms remain essential. Children’s rights must be defended consistently, not only during the month of celebration. By sustaining these efforts and adapting to new digital threats, the government and society as a whole can better uphold the safety, dignity, and rights of every child.
